Life After Gastric Bypass Surgery

Experience and information from a Gastric Bypass Postop RNYer

Truckin Right Along…And Approval for surgery?

5/2/07
I made my first psych appointment (I still have to make another one before the social worker gives her stamp of approval). I made my appointment for the endoscopy and the abdominal ultrasound. Those doggone echocardiogram people were too busy to answer the phone so I’ll try again tomorrow.

I got something else in the mail that threw me for a loop. I got a letter from the Cedar Sinai Medical group that says I’ve been approved for the laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass. HUH??? I don’t get it. This can’t be the prized, the beloved approval that all preops pray and beg and cry for. It’s not from the insurance company. It’s from the Medical group, so I’m not sure what it means, especially since I haven’t had any of the preop tests yet…and don’t even have full approval from the social worker until I have 2 psych visits. It even says I can schedule the surgery. That can’t be right. I don’t get this at all. Well, I’m going to call the care coordinator tomorrow and ask her about it. It’s way too good to be true. But I’ll keep my fingers crossed because sometimes things that seem too good to be true can be true.
