I had my surgery consultation on 3/20/07, and I have to say it was marvelous! Most of my time was spent speaking to Dr. Doriaswami (sorry about the spelling if it’s wrong), who was very nice and encouraging. My favorite part was when he told me “you’re a young woman”. I haven’t heard that in a while, and at 43 I may never hear it again..hehe! He told me I was an ideal candidate for surgery.
He gave me a big thick binder of material to read and it goes through all the tests you need to get to be approved for surgery. It tells you about preop preparation and post op diet. I read the whole thing but there’s so much information, and although I’ve seen much of it before, I need to read through it a couple more times. And it’s so thorough, that’s exactly what it says…that you need to read through it several times.
After talking to him I finally made up my mind to do a gastric bypass. He said he thought I could potentially do well with a lap band but knowin that the lap band does nothing to keep you from eating junk food made me decide against it. That is my biggest problem.
I saw Dr. Khalili for all of about a minute…but it was a nice minute. He seems like a sweet guy, and still nice-looking in person, even with his glasses on
.
They said insurance approval can take up to 6 weeks. Ay-yay-yay! I hope not but still I left feeling very encouraged about the whole process.
