Life After Gastric Bypass Surgery

Experience and information from a Gastric Bypass Postop RNYer

Insurance Results

I called up the insurance company to find out why my surgical consult would not be covered when I was authorized by Blue Cross to have the consult. I spoke to Pat who was very nice and she told me very quickly that it was a mistake since she could see that the visit was authorized. She told me it would be adjusted. Whew! My faith in humanity is restored.

I started using fitday.com for the first time yesterday and what a revelation! I used to think that I could gain weight even though I ate under the 1900 calories I’m supposed to. After tracking my food yesterday, boy, was I deceiving myself. I discovered that my morning trip to Starbucks was costing me 500+ calories. I thought getting a tall coffee instead of Venti was saving me calories. However, the banana bread was more than making up for it.

I didn’t go to Starbucks today. I saved 500 calories. I hope I can keep resisting the temptation. In the end my total calories yesterday were over 2100, multiply that by 7 and it’s easy to understand how someone can continuously gain weight, whether it’s rebound after a diet or not.

I plan to keep using fitday.com. A very wise man said if you don’t face your money fears, you will remain a slave to your financial situation. Likewise, if you don’t look food in the face, you are a slave to it. By tracking our food, we are facing and taking control of it, rather than letting it enslave us.
