I scheduled my consult with Dr. Khalili, the bariatric surgeon. Another month’s wait. Oh well, can’t do anything about that. I still can’t believe I got referral in the first place. I’ll be seeing him on 03/20/07. It’s like the dream is slowly becoming a reality.
Other patients of his here have said he is the best or one of the best. And hey, not bad lookin’ either. That never hurts
A month seems like a long time, but that will give me time to start exercising and eating better. I can’t wait!
I got my referral for a surgery consult today in the mail! It’s not the surgeon I wanted but I happen to know the surgeon I was referred to is also very experienced, Dr. Theodore Khalili, M.D. Now I just have to wait until Monday to call and make an appointment. Woohoo!
Oh yes, one more thing before I go. I am now back to wanting the Lap-Band. I originally came here to find out about the Lap-Band, but the more I read about disadvantages and complaints, and the more good things I read from roux-en-y gastric bypass surgery patients, the more I was convinced that RNY was the best solution for me. Now, however, I am afraid of the complications, potential nutritional deficiencies, and the whole having-your-intestines-rearranged thing, and lastly the irreversibility of it.
The waiting game has begun. I saw my PCP a week ago, and am waiting for my bariatric surgeon referral approval (Not approval but referral approval. BlueCross has to approve referrals, then they send the approval to you in the mail. *sigh*). They say it takes 7-10 days for referrals to go through so I keep checking my mail every day.
I finally saw my new PCP (primary care physician). I had no idea what to expect. I found out before seeing her that she is the Medical Director of the medical group I belong to. That certainly explains why it took over a month to get an appointment with her. But hopefully that also means she’s good.
She is nice but unfortunately not a fan of WLS. She said she worries that 5 years from now they’ll find a better solution for obese people and wonder “why we did that to people”, meaning the gastric bypass. I did tell her I was interested in the Lap-Band, which I first heard about from my mother, and she said people lose less weight on that. She also said that 30% of people have complications with RNY.
I should have posted sooner but I have been feeling so down for multiple reasons that I couldn’t. Plus I literally have not had time until the weekend and I’ll tell you why. Today my car broke down. This is what is referred to as “kicking someone when they’re down.” My car will need $1300 in repairs, and I don’t have it. And I won’t have it anytime soon. The last time my car needed that many repairs it took me 6 months to save it up. So my car won’t be getting fixed anytime soon. In fact, I’m not even sure I can save that amount of money in 6 months. My credit is not good enough to get a loan, I have no collateral and no rich relatives. Oh well…
